Popular Nigerian actress Lizzy Gold has openly criticized her father for what she described as having an “entitlement mentality” after he failed to show appreciation for a generous cash gift she sent during Easter.
In a now-deleted video posted on Instagram, Lizzy shared her disappointment over the lack of gratitude she received, despite her consistent financial support. The actress revealed that she often sends money to her father late at night as a surprise, so he wakes up to a credit alert—something she says typically results in heartfelt prayers that motivate her to keep giving.
“Normally, I always send money to my father. I do send money at night so that he will see the amount I have sent when he wakes up in the morning, because I love surprises,” she explained.
She added that the spiritual blessings and encouragement she normally receives in return keep her going. However, this time, things didn’t go as expected.
On Easter Day, after initially ignoring her father’s casual request for money—“Baby how far na? Do Easter for you papa na”—she eventually transferred a significant amount at 2 a.m., claiming it was ten times more than her usual gift.
“You know that kind of feeling of giving your father big money and you are expecting to wake up and see some kind of prayers that will bubble you,” she said.
To her dismay, the only response she got was a simple: “Thanks.”
When she called to express her hurt, her father told her he had prayed for her “in his heart.” Lizzy responded:
“Daddy, I don’t pluck money from the trees. I work tirelessly for money. I enjoy the prayers. It gingers me to want to do more.”
Her video has since sparked debate online, with many sympathizing with her, while others cautioned against publicly airing private family issues.
