The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has discovered some disparities in the pay of some government agencies.
According to Mohammed Shehu, the chairman of RMAFC, on Thursday, December 1, staff members of some agencies earn more than President Muhammadu Buhari, Channels TV reports.
Shehu revealed that, while President Buhari does not earn more than N1,300,000 per month, heads of some agencies earn three to four times that amount.
He said:
“The salary of Mr President is not up to N1,300,000 a month…the allowances of the President are factored into that salary.
“In 2008, that was considered a big money but now, there are people in the private sector and public sector that earn twice, three times, four times.”
Furthermore, Shehu revealed that some government officials receive as much as N500 million in severance pay, while the president is only entitled to N10 million at the end of his tenure.
The following agencies were named by the commission’s boss:
- The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)
- The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
- The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)
- The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
He went on to say that Nigeria currently has 17 different salary categories spread across several agencies.
As a result, RMAFC’s chairman is proposing that civil service salary schemes be standardised, with no public official earning more than the president.
