Lilian Afegbai has issued an apology following her recent social media outburst directed at the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
The Nollywood actress and producer shared the apology via her social media platforms, acknowledging that her earlier reaction was inappropriate and expressing regret over her actions.
She wrote:
“This apology should have come earlier, That tweet should not have happened. No excuse.
“It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill A Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me.
“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded.
“I’ve come a long way in my journey, and for a long time I felt invisible. To Kill A Monkey felt like my “now they see me” moment, and I held on to that very tightly.
“When I wasn’t nominated, I reacted from a place of hurt, entitlement and it was out of character for me. I was wrong and I am sorry.
“Please give me a chance to be better. I no go fall una hand again.”
Her apology comes days after she publicly criticised the AMVCA organisers when the nominees for this year’s awards were announced and her name was absent.
At the time, she had reacted in frustration, writing:
“AMVCA SMH.”
She followed it up with another post:
“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason.
“I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear: Nobody trended like Idia from TKAM last year. Her acting was 100. You guys can eat your award.”
