Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr Francis Eyituoyor-Maku has appealed to the Federal Government to include Koko Port in its current plan to resuscitate some moribund sea ports in the country.
Chairman of Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Mrs Hadiza Usman, who recently visited the Calabar port in Cross River State, had revealed that the Federal Government intends to revive some moribund ports in the country. He did not mention Koko port as one of them, which prompted Eyituoyor-Maku’s appeal.
“Koko port should also be considered among those to be re- opened in the country. It is strategically located and it will be of immense benefit to the economy of this nation by boosting economic activities and tourism. Besides, it will bring back the glory of the historic town of Koko.
“It will bring jobs to over 20,000 Nigerians and other businesses that the port will facilitate will contribute to the anticipated employment opportunities in the country,” he said.
Eyituoyor-Maku charged the people of the area to be peace loving, adding that the presence of the 19 Battalion of the Nigerian Army will guarantee a peaceful atmosphere needed for the take off of developmental projects in the area.
