England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley, has confirmed that they will not risk Harry Kane’s fitness for the upcoming match.
Carsley announced that Manchester City defender John Stones will captain the team in their Nations League game against Greece on Wednesday.
Kane sustained an injury during Bayern Munich’s 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend and is not fit enough to start the match.
England will also face Finland in Helsinki on Sunday, and while Carsley hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Kane making an appearance as a substitute against Greece, he prefers to ensure the striker is ready for the weekend.
“Harry has a minor injury, just a small knock. We’re not going to take any chances with it,” Carsley told reporters.
