In a bid to equip young people with essential digital and technical skills, the LEAH Foundation has successfully concluded an intensive empowerment program in Ilorin, Kwara State. The initiative, spearheaded by the foundation’s CEO, Her Excellency Evangelist Omolewa Ahmed, aimed to bridge the skills gap and create opportunities for self-reliance among youths.
The program, which ran for several weeks, featured two major training components: ICT training and basic electrical skills development. It was coordinated by IT expert Adewole Adebayo, a seasoned professional with years of experience in IT solutions delivery across various sectors. Adebayo, who also serves as the IT lead for the Office of the Wife of the Governor, played a crucial role in designing and executing the program.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Adebayo emphasized the importance of digital literacy in today’s world. “Technology is evolving rapidly, and it’s essential for young people to be equipped with the right skills to thrive in this digital economy,” he said. “This program was designed to provide participants with hands-on training in IT infrastructure management, software development, and network security, core areas that are in high demand globally.”
The ICT training covered fundamental and advanced aspects of information technology, including computer networking, cybersecurity, web development, and digital communications. Meanwhile, the basic electrical training equipped participants with foundational knowledge in wiring, circuit installation, and electrical troubleshooting, preparing them for potential careers in electrical maintenance and repairs.
Participants, drawn from different parts of Kwara State, expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity. Many described the training as a life-changing experience that opened new career paths for them.
One of the beneficiaries, Aisha Mohammed, shared her experience: “Before this training, I had little knowledge of IT, but now I can confidently set up computer networks and build simple websites. This program has given me a solid foundation to explore a career in technology.” Another participant, Ibrahim Lawal, who took part in the electrical training, said, “Learning the basics of electrical work has been eye-opening. I now have the confidence to take on small electrical projects and even consider further training in this field.”
Her Excellency Evangelist Omolewa Ahmed reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to youth empowerment, stating that the LEAH Foundation would continue to invest in skill-building programs. “Our vision is to ensure that young people are not left behind in the digital and technical revolution. We will keep supporting initiatives that provide them with the tools they need to succeed,” she said.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants and an encouragement to apply their newly acquired skills in real-world scenarios. With initiatives like this, the LEAH Foundation continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Kwara’s youth, proving that technology and technical skills are powerful tools for empowerment and social change.
