The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari were received in Nigeria on Tuesday, following his passing in London. His body arrived aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft at the Umar Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina around midday.
Upon arrival, a brief but dignified military ceremony was held. Soldiers solemnly carried the flag-draped casket from the aircraft, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led a delegation of federal officials, including governors, ministers, and lawmakers, to receive the body.
Buhari’s final journey will continue to his hometown of Daura, where funeral rites will take place in line with Islamic traditions, followed by his burial later today.
Social media users have reacted to the development:
- @Allezamani questioned, “Why wasn’t it put in the cargo section of the plane?”
- @NathiSibiya8 added, “What a disgrace 😤, he was a passenger too. Why not in a cargo side.”
- @oluwole745 noted, “None of them dey ever die for Nigeria, na outside Nigeria they dey always pai.”
