Frankie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has told manager Xavi Hernandez that he does not want to leave the club.
The midfielder is unhappy with the number of games he has started for the Catalans this season and has begged Xavi for more.
Last summer, Manchester United attempted to sign the Dutch midfielder from Barcelona, but he refused to leave Camp Nou.
According to reports from late last week, the former Ajax midfielder is unhappy at Barcelona and wants to move to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old expected to be a key member of Barcelona’s star-studded squad under Xavi.
He made over 30 starts in La Liga last season, but things haven’t gone as planned for him this season, with only three starts.
According to Sport, De Jong is frustrated with the situation and will become even more so if he does not return to the starting XI.
“We don’t talk much with Xavi, but we only talk about football,” the Dutchman told reporters ahead of the El Clasico. I knew I’d be playing fewer minutes at the start of the season.
“I want to be a starter again. Against Bayern, I wasn’t a starter and I hope to be against Real Madrid. Maybe he already decided, but usually we don’t know until the day of the game.
“I was calm. I decided in May, that I wanted to stay.
“My opinion has never changed during all this period. I remained calm. But then you know that the pressure would start coming from the newspapers, from the president, from everywhere in fact. But I wanted to stay at Barca, so it never bothered me.”
