Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has responded to the backlash over her recent statement about taking her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub.
The actress previously faced criticism after a video surfaced of her claiming she introduced her daughter to clubbing and alcohol.
In a new clip shared on Instagram, Laide clarified that she never gave her daughter any alcohol, explaining that her earlier comment was a “slip of the tongue.”
Addressing the controversy, she said: “I’ve not been able to focus since morning because of the accusations about introducing my daughter to alcohol. My phone hasn’t stopped ringing. She’s a minor and doesn’t take alcohol. I took her to the club, yes—but no alcohol was involved.”
She went on to apologise for the misunderstanding, saying she hadn’t realised she mentioned giving her daughter alcohol during the earlier interview.
“I didn’t know I said that in the interview—it was a slip of the tongue. I’m sorry to Simi and to the parents who felt I went too far. This is one of the reasons I rarely grant interviews. I apologise for the mix-up,” she added.
Following her clarification, the tension in her comment section appears to have eased, with many fans commending her for taking responsibility and clearing the air.
