The Lagos State Government is set to enforce the usage of life jackets on water ways in the state.
The government said the enforcement would prevent water transportation accidents from turning into tragedies.
The decision came after a passenger boat capsized on Sunday, drowning no fewer than 10 people, including children at Imude in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area.
The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Mnagement Authority, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said, “Government is no longer comfortable with avoidable loss of lives as a result of care-free attitude of the operators and passengers of water transport.
“The state government has been urging the people to use life-jacket for water transportation but they would not just listen.
“Henceforth, usage of life jackets is a must for all the operators and their passengers. The government will soon begin to monitor the waters in the state to ensure compliance.
