The Lagos State Government has detained a female teacher, Mrs. Stella Nwadigo, following the circulation of a disturbing video showing her mistreating a 3-year-old boy, Abayomi Michael, during a writing lesson.
The video, which was filmed by an anonymous source, showed Mrs. Nwadigo, who works at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, slapping and shouting at the child as he struggled to write the number “6.”
The footage triggered widespread outrage, prompting immediate action from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
Within hours of the video going viral, the DSVA confirmed the teacher’s arrest and emphasized the state’s commitment to safeguarding children from abuse. The agency has initiated further investigations to ensure justice for the young boy and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A statement from the Lagos DSVA regarding the arrest read:
“We thank everyone who brought attention to the troubling incident involving a teacher physically abusing a 3-year-old boy.
“We are happy to report that the teacher has been arrested by the Owutu FSU, and an investigation is now underway. It is crucial that educational institutions remain safe, supportive, and nurturing for all children.
“The State Government remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance approach to abuse in any form.”
