Police officers accused of attacking popular actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, also known as Ijoba Lande, have been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command for questioning and investigation.
The update was confirmed in a statement shared on X on Friday, February 6, 2026, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, following public reactions to the alleged incident.
According to the police spokesperson, the officers connected to the case have been identified and are currently undergoing internal disciplinary investigation. She explained that statements are being collected from everyone involved, including the officers, the actor, and a friend who was with him at the time.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. At present, the officers, the complainant, and his friend are all giving their statements. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the statement read.
Earlier, a video that circulated online showed Ijoba Lande sitting in the front seat of a vehicle with visible injuries, including blood stains on the left side of his face and bruises.
In the video, the actor, who spoke in Yoruba, was repeatedly heard asking for water while people around him tried to comfort him and suggested going to a police station to officially report the incident.
A voice in the background of the footage alleged that officers from the Area “J” Police Division were responsible for the attack, repeatedly mentioning the station while describing the incident as wrongful.
Toward the end of the video, the group was seen arriving at what appeared to be a police station, where the actor seemed calmer.
The caption attached to the video also claimed that the entertainer was robbed during the incident. It alleged that his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 belonging to his brother were taken.
“I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption stated.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the case is being handled seriously and that necessary action will be taken depending on the findings of the investigation.
