As a result of the shooting death of a naval officer, the residents of the Ajegunle in Lagos State’s Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area have seen new levels of unrest.
According to the Daily Trust, a group of gunmen allegedly opened fire on the security guard who was working alone.
The naval rating was killed just a week after a female officer was allegedly also slain nearby.
When the slain cops’ coworkers allegedly promised to exact revenge for their colleague’s murder, the incident caused several locals to become alarmed.
However, the Nigerian Navy issued a warning to its local officers not to exact revenge on their fallen comrades.
The event was reported to news reporters by Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos police, who also noted that no one has yet been detained in connection with the crime.
According to the police spokesman, the deceased naval commander worked at the Nigerian Navy’s Lagos Logistics Depot till his death. He also said that his remains had been sent to the Nigerian Navy medical morgue in Ojo.
He said that the deceased navy officer’s body had been placed in the mortuary of the Nigerian Navy hospital in Ojo while he was still alive and working at the Lagos Logistics Depot of the Nigerian Navy at the time of the occurrence.
The chief of police stated:
“It is true a naval officer was killed. An investigation had as started but nobody has been arrested yet.”
