The Lagos State Government has reacted to accusations made by Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, who claimed she was harassed and assaulted by officers of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) during a recent incident in Lagos.
Martins had earlier shared a video on Instagram alleging that KAI operatives attacked her while she was cooking outdoors as part of a community outreach program.
In response, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, issued a statement on Friday defending the officers’ actions, explaining that the actress’s activity violated Lagos State’s environmental and sanitation laws.
According to Wahab, while the government encourages community service and charitable efforts, such initiatives must adhere to established environmental guidelines.
“The individual in question claimed to be conducting charitable cooking activities on the road median, which unfortunately contravened existing environmental and sanitation regulations,” he stated.
He emphasized that the state values citizens who engage in acts of kindness but insisted that these activities must be conducted safely and lawfully to prevent accidents, maintain order, and protect the environment.
Wahab further advised residents to obtain necessary permits or use designated spaces before organizing public events of this nature.
“Lagosians are encouraged to use approved locations or seek authorization for such activities so they can contribute positively without breaching the state’s laws,” the commissioner added.
