A Nigerian social media user has left the internet in stitches and disbelief after sharing a surprising interaction with a widow she attempted to assist for the festive season.
The Encounter
Sharing her experience on X (formerly Twitter), the benefactor explained that she initially saw a comment from a woman on Instagram pleading for assistance, specifically asking for used clothes or food for her children for Christmas.
Moved by compassion, the lady privately reached out and generously offered ₦50,000. However, she was stunned when the recipient replied that the money would be insufficient because she also had rent to pay.
The benefactor wrote:
“So this lady on Instagram commented saying she needed even if it’s used clothes and food for her kids for Christmas that she was a widow. I reached out, offered her 50k, tell me why she’s saying it won’t be enough cos she has to pay rent too💀🥲 Nigerians.”

“Just another classic case of entitled begging in Naija. Pay her no mind. You have already done what you can for her. Move ON!”
Iyke commented:
“Show evidence or it never happened. No one will reject 50k in Nigeria today. You guys lie unprovoked on this app.”
Siaiolojuede said:
“You will be surprised she’s not even a widow, begging is their full-time job and they’re plenty on this app too.”
Mizra added:
“At least you had good intentions towards her. Had to block family members with such entitlement mindset.”
Big Jay noted:
“Sometimes I feel people like this are not real. Cause, I can’t understand what’s going through their head.”
