A Nigerian woman has publicly shared details of a conversation she held with human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu prior to his current detention. The activist’s custody status has been confirmed by the controversial critic, VeryDarkMan.
This development comes as a user on X (formerly Twitter) accused Gwamnishu of diverting a portion of a ₦20 million ransom fund that was raised to secure the release of his sister and brother-in-law.
Details of the Chat
A Facebook user identified as Gwen Chiamaka Ifeson released the contents of her discussion with Gwamnishu. She revealed that the activist told her he had been invited to Edo State by Monday Opabelo, the Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor.
According to Ifeson, Gwamnishu traveled to the state on Thursday, December 4, 2025. She argued that contrary to circulating rumors, he was honoring an invitation rather than being arrested and charged in court. She further disclosed that prior to this specific trip, Gwamnishu had already been holding meetings with government officials to discuss security challenges in the region.
Clarification on the Ransom Allegations
Addressing the allegations of financial misappropriation, Ifeson stated that Gwamnishu was not the individual responsible for delivering the funds to the kidnappers. She noted that the ₦20 million ransom has since been returned to Auchi, Edo State.
Furthermore, she criticized the family of the victim for taking their accusations against Harrison to the internet, expressing deep concern that such public outbursts could jeopardize the safety of the man who remains in the custody of the kidnappers.
