The Kwara State Police Command has arrested popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as ‘Portable’, over alleged criminal defamation and other related offences, according to Naijalog.
The arrest took place on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following a petition filed by Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa’.
In a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, it was confirmed that Portable is currently in custody.
The statement reads in part:
“The Kwara State Police Command informs the public that a petition was received from Mr. Okunola Saheed, also known as ‘Osupa’, against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, aka ‘Portable’ in the entertainment scene.“In response, our detectives initiated proper legal procedures to investigate the claims.
“The petition involves serious accusations such as criminal defamation, life threats, incitement, character defamation, conduct likely to disturb public peace, and the use of abusive language.
“Given the gravity of these allegations and the evidence provided, a valid arrest warrant was obtained from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, officers arrested the suspect in Abeokuta on Saturday, April 13, 2025, at approximately 7:25 p.m., and brought him to Ilorin for further investigation.
“Upon his arrival, Portable provided a statement in the presence of legal counsel from both sides. He remains in custody and preparations are underway for his court arraignment.”
The police command emphasized its dedication to upholding justice and the rule of law, urging the public to stay calm and avoid sharing unverified reports.
