The Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has become on Thursday the third aspirant to pick the nomination form. He picked the expression of interest and the Presidential nomination form of the All Progressives Congress after paying the mandatory N27.5m fee.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and a former Head of State, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari were the first two to do so.
Kwankwaso hinted that more politicians from other political parties would soon join the APC.
He said although he could afford to buy the forms, his supporters put money together to buy the forms on his behalf.
He said, “I want to also thank those who contributed money to purchase this form. Members of the National Assembly, State assembly, elders from Kano and across the country.
“Mr. Chairman, I have the capacity to buy this form, unfortunately or fortunately, they didn’t tell me. They just went ahead. Not only that they purchased the forms, they told me they have a lot of money in the account for us to start the campaign.”
Responding, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. John Odigie-Oyegun, described Kwankwaso as one of the rising stars in the party.
He said, “Kwankwaso is one of the rising stars of the APC. He is one of those who have made the party very, very proud, one of those who have put the party on the national map. Having confirmed the receipt of payment in respect of the forms, first the expression of interest and second the presidential nomination form, it is now my pleasure to present you with the forms which make you from today an official aspirant of the APC for President.”
Some members of the National Assembly and their counterpart at the Borno State House of Assembly picked the expression of interest and nomination forms on behalf of the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
