Make-up is very important to every woman. For some it covers, for others it enhances, and a few people even see it as an art-form. or this reason, it’s essential that we take care of our make-up and any of it’s accessories. Like every good thing we know, make-up also has its expiry date; that is why we have to ensure that we don’t keep it for too long. Using expired or stale make-up can cause skin irritation and worsen acne breakouts. The various components of the product separate and no longer “make you up” but “bring you down”. To ensure that you get the best of out your make-up products, here’s a guide showing you how and when to get rid of make-up products.
1. Bring out your make-up purse, let’s start there. If it’s separating, cracked, clumped together, or has an awful stench; toss it! It’s no longer safe to use. The separation of its various components is a clear sign that the product has reached its limit. It doesn’t matter who gave it to you, how nice the bottle looks, or who you finally got to hook up with the day you bought it; let it go!!
2. Wash your make-up brushes every 3 months. Between your face and the product surface, there’s probably more germs than stars in the sky. Using a mild hair shampoo a warm water, clean your make-up brushes, sponges, poufs, whatever it is that you use to apply your make-up. It gets rid of all the accumulated make-up clumps in the equipment and it keeps your face clean and spot free.
3. From now on, adhere strictly to this throwaway guide for all your products.
Face powder, powder blush, bronzer, pencil eyeliner(if it lasts that long), powder eye-shadow, eye-liner powder.
The above named products all have a usage duration of 2 years only! After two years you need to throw them away, unless they start to clump and crack.
Concealer, foundation, cream blush, cream eyeshadow, lip gloss, lip balm, facial cleanser, moisturizers, eye-cream, sunscreen.
These last for only a year. They are the cream products and because of their consistency, do not have as long a shelf life as the powdered products. We need to be more careful with these products as it is easier to develop an irritation to them.
Face Exfoliator, Make-up primer.
They have a 6-month shelf-life.
Liquid eye-liner: This has a 3-month usage period. Because it is applied in a mucous region, it has a very short shelf-life and can spread germs very rapidly.
4. Start labeling your products. When you buy a new make-up product, place a sticker on it and write the date; the month and year in which you start using the product. Then, using the guide I just gave you, write down its throwaway date. Ensure that you keep to this date and toss that product duly.
5. Don’t share. Remember, make-up products are personal items and should not be shared with other people especially eye- products.
Keep yourself, safe and stay beautiful girls!
