Nigerian music legend King Sunny Ade (KSA) has finally addressed the longstanding rumors of a romantic relationship between him and the late iconic singer Onyeka Onwenu (MON).
During a recent visit to offer condolences to Onwenu’s family, KSA clarified the speculations that have persisted for years.
Speaking openly, KSA explained that the rumors were part of a strategic plan to promote their hit song, “Wait for Me.” He disclosed, “That was just a gimmick we used. It was all for the music. We wanted to launch ‘Wait for Me.’ People used to think she was my girlfriend, but neither of us ever confirmed or denied it.”
KSA also paid a touching tribute to Onwenu, describing her as an exceptional woman who provided invaluable advice and support throughout their professional relationship. “She was the kind of person who would sit down with you and say, ‘Can I offer some advice?’ And her advice was always excellent,” he fondly recalled.
