The Lagos State House of Assembly has demanded that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hold a meeting of the security council in the State in an effort to stop the increasing number of civilian deaths at the hands of uniformed men.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, chaired a plenary on Tuesday during which the MPs bemoaned the fact that the deaths thus far have followed a similar pattern, including references to men in uniform.
Eromosele Ebhomele, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly’s media assistant, revealed this in a statement, according to Naija News.
Furthermore, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub as Director/CEO of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps (DTAC).
This follows the recent expiration of the term of Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi, the former CEO and director of DTAC.
The announcement said that the appointment would take effect right away, as far as Naija News is aware.
The Speaker called for professionalism and civility in response to the recent altercation between certain Army personnel and officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Speaking earlier under the topic of “Matter of Urgent Public Importance,” Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho 2) drew his colleagues’ attention to the recent killings, stating that the acts were concerning.
Hon. Joseph recalled that Adeniyi Sanni, a resident, had been slain earlier in August 2023. He mentioned two more occurrences that occurred on August 17 and August 19.
The odd part is that there was a consistent pattern in the homicides. The wife of Adeniyi Sanni informed me that guys dressed in military clothes stopped her husband at a checkpoint. They asked for documentation, which the wife forwarded to him via WhatsApp. Later on, his body was discovered somewhere.
The same thing happened to Mr. Lawal, who was pulled over and requested to show his paperwork. Later, they dumped his body in the Iyana-Ipaja region,” he remarked.
He made the motion to increase state security by calling in the police, and to use Army uniforms to identify and apprehend those who commit crimes of this nature. To stop these atrocities, he continued, the governor ought to do action.
Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu (Badagry 1) noted in his remark that it was getting harder to spot a phony security guard.
