Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has officially inserted himself into the trending online war between Seun Kuti and Wizkid, delivering a harsh verdict on the “Morayo” crooner and his fanbase.
“Keypad Warriors”
In a series of videos posted to his Instagram, the activist warned Wizkid against disrespecting Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. He reserved his harshest criticism for Wizkid’s fans, dismissing them as mere “keypad warriors“ who are vocal online but nowhere to be found when it comes to actually fighting for the country.
Talent vs. Awards
VDM argued that the current “big three” Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid are not necessarily more talented than the singers of past generations. He insisted that winning a Grammy Award does not automatically make them better artists.
The Sampling Allegation
To bolster his point, VDM analyzed Wizkid’s music, playing two tracks alongside clips of Fela’s songs to claim that the singer actively samples the legend he is being compared to. He further diminished Wizkid’s Grammy success, noting that none of his awards were for solo recordings, but rather for collaborations with foreign artists.
