Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo delivered a playful yet cryptic remark to his junior colleague, Toyin Abraham, during his acceptance speech at the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.
The prestigious event, held at Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State, celebrated Kanayo with a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
In his speech, the actor expressed gratitude to the governor and event organizers for the recognition, dedicating the honor to fellow Nollywood practitioners battling drug-related health issues.
However, a humorous comment directed at Toyin Abraham stole the spotlight:
“Toyin Abraham, this is just some minute to 12; if you talk to me at 1 am, I’ll take you to the coven, and you will disappear.” Kanayo joked, referencing his famed roles in occult-themed Nollywood films.
The remark drew laughter from the audience, showcasing the actor’s playful personality. Despite the humor, Kanayo used the platform to advocate for increased support for Nollywood actors facing health challenges.
Sharing a video of the event on Instagram, Kanayo wrote:
“Happening NOW in Ilorin, Kwara State, I was conferred with a Special Recognition Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) at the BEST OF NOLLYWOOD AWARDS 2024, for my contributions to the growth of the Entertainment industry in Africa, presented by His Excellency, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Executive Governor, Kwara State.”
