Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, along with other prominent figures in Nigeria’s movie industry, is strongly opposing the government’s new restrictions on rituals and other portrayals in film, music videos, and skit content.
This action follows the approval of the prohibition of Money Ritual, Ritual Killing, Tobacco, Tobacco Products, Nicotine Product Promotion, and Glamorization display in Movies, Musical Videos, and Skits under section 65 of the NFVCB Act 2004 by the Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa
In response, Kanayo criticized the policy as “complete nonsense,” questioning the reasoning of Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa for endorsing such constraints on filmmakers.
In his statement, he said, “Complete nonsense. This minister has no work, just like Liar Mohammed.”
Furthermore, veteran musician Mike Okri expressed skepticism about the government’s intentions, suggesting that the ban might be an attempt to undermine the film industry.
