Veteran Igbo politician , Chief Emmanuel Iwanyanwu stormed out of an Ohanaeze Ndigbo meeting after a motion he moved to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as the consensus candidate of the Igbos for the presidential election failed.
Iwuanyanwu on Saturday told the Ime-Obi (inner caucus) meeting of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Enugu that he came with a message from ‘90 per cent of Igbos’ who were supporting Jonathan’s election for a second term and that he needed an answer to take back.
However, this request created tension as those who were not in support argued that the adoption of Jonathan as the consensus candidate of the Igbos was not on the agenda of the meeting.
The issue soon snowballed into a shouting match, between those against, and those in support of the failed motion to adopt Jonathan as the consensus candidate, this forced the President General of the association, Chief Gary Igariwey, to adjourn the meeting, abruptly.
Following the failure of the motion, Iwuanyanwu walked out of the meeting.
A communiqué at the end of the meeting explained that the motion for the adoption of a presidential candidate will be left unattended to , until further notice, as the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was still consulting.
