Nigerian music star Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing conversation around mediocrity in the music industry, asserting that talent will always rise above hype.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, the Kukere hitmaker wrote:
“At the end of the day, we will separate the wack artists from the real ones.”
His comment comes amid growing concerns about questionable practices in the Nigerian music scene, including excessive use of auto-tune, heavy reliance on songwriters, and allegations of manipulating streaming numbers to inflate popularity.
Artists like Blaqbonez and Odumodublvck have openly criticized the increasing use of streaming farms — services used to artificially boost song streams.
Music mogul Don Jazzy has previously denied allegations of using such methods to promote artists under his label. Likewise, Shallipopi dismissed claims that he spent ₦9 million to buy fake streams to push his songs up the charts.
Despite these denials, suspicions around unethical promotional tactics continue to spark debate in the industry. Iyanya’s stance reinforces the belief that genuine artistry will ultimately stand the test of time.
