The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has stated that it intends to continue its military operations against Iran for at least another three weeks as tensions between the two countries escalate in the Middle East.
According to the Israeli military, thousands of potential targets remain as it intensifies efforts aimed at weakening Iran’s military infrastructure and operational capacity.
Speaking during an interview with CNN on Sunday, IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said the military already has long-term strategies prepared for the campaign.
He said: “We have thousands of targets ahead,” Defrin said. “We are ready, in coordination with our US allies, with plans through at least the Jewish holiday of Passover, about three weeks from now. And we have deeper plans for even three weeks beyond that.”
The IDF said that since the start of the military campaign against Iran on February 28, the Israeli Air Force has conducted about 400 waves of airstrikes across western and central parts of Iran. The strikes have reportedly focused on dismantling critical infrastructure and targeting individuals connected to Iran’s military, defence and weapons manufacturing sectors.
Israeli authorities also stated that both the United States and Israel have attacked thousands of targets since the conflict began, describing it as one of the most intense periods of military confrontation between the two nations in recent years.
Defrin noted that the campaign is not being carried out under strict deadlines but is instead focused on meeting strategic objectives.
He said: “We are not working according to a stopwatch, or a timetable, but rather to achieve our goals,”
He added that Israel’s main goal is to significantly weaken the Iranian government and its military strength, as concerns grow that the conflict could spread further across the region.
