President Muhammad Buhari had on Monday April 27 ordered that from Monday May 4th, the nation would be reopened partially
He had ordered all activities to resume, but only at 60% capacity and also ordered a curfew between 8pm and 6am
Many Nigerians were however in disagreement with this decision, stating that a partial lockdown is like starting from scratch as there is no way to manage or control people’s movement in Nigeria (See Some Reactions HERE)
Using other countries as example. Ghana has recorded 1032 cases, just few days after lifting lockdown
Developed countries like UK, United States, Canada have been on lockdown for longer period and they don’t seem to have plans of lifting anytime soon
United States alone has recorded over 1 million coronavirus cases
UK, officially started it’s total lockdown on March 24th and are still on lockdown
Canada as well started it’s official lockdown since mid March and these developed countries have said , the lockdown will still be on for a while
These are countries with good health care systems
There are a number of factors which may prevent Nigeria from lockdown for an extended period of time like the developed countries
One of such factors is lack of support from the Government. We all saw what happened with distribution of palliatives during the lockdown
So one may say factors like this may have influenced the governments decision to open the country
Which brings us to our question
Is easing of LOCKDOWN a wise move for Nigeria right Now?
