Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku was booed on Thursday while in Donga local government council to coronate and present the staff of office to Donga Gara-Donga, Sanvalla Varzoa Shimbura Gargbanyi ( ll).
When Ishaku stood up to pay tribute to former Defense Minister Theophilus Y. Danjuma, he was booed.
The crowd, armed with placards bearing various inscriptions, said they were fed up with the governor’s administration and vowed not to align their weights with him any longer.
It should be noted that the Ishaku representative was recently booed in Jalingo, the state capital, when he was denied the opportunity to address the gathering at a reception hosted by former governor Jolly T. Nyame.
The crowd, which was chanting “bamu so, bamu yi” (we are no longer interested) and waving posters of opposition candidates seeking elective positions in 2023, expressed sadness over the governor’s broken promises.
Citing the governor’s alleged failure to address the state’s hardship and his refusal to pay university lecturers following their participation in the recently suspended Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, among other things, the crowd vowed to prevent him from realizing his senatorial ambition in 2023.
The governor was allegedly chased out of Wukari on Wednesday night by angry youths who vowed not to let him spend the night there.
Among the allegations leveled against him by youths in Wukari are embezzling state funds, mortgaging the state through massive debts, and general bad governance.
It was also learned that due to the tension that engulfed Wukari on Wednesday night, Ishaku was forced to relocate to Takum town in the Takum local government area of the state for safety before returning to Donga for the program on Thursday.
