Gunmen have claimed the lives of at least seventy-six individuals in recent attacks on multiple communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State. Monday Kasa, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, disclosed to Channels TV that the coordinated attacks unfolded on Saturday and extended into Christmas Eve, disrupting the festive mood of the residents.
Kasa noted that the casualty count is rising as security personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters continue to recover more bodies while combing through the bushes in search of missing persons ambushed during the attacks. The assailants not only set numerous houses ablaze but also looted farm produce and caused extensive property damage.
Expressing condemnation, Governor Caleb Mutfwang called for swift action and heightened community vigilance. In an official statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor urged security agencies to promptly apprehend the perpetrators behind these heinous acts, ensuring they face the full force of the law. Mutfwang also implored communities across the state to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security operatives for immediate intervention.
