Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, announced on Thursday that he has resumed his role as the head of the parliament.
Obasa made this declaration after arriving at the Assembly complex with armed security operatives.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he stated.
His impeachment took place on January 13, 2025, when lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly removed him over allegations of misappropriation.
At the time, Obasa was in the United States, and in his absence, Mojisola Meranda was appointed and sworn in as the new Speaker.
However, upon his return, Obasa challenged his impeachment, arguing that due process was not followed in his removal.
