Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s performance, even as Nigerians continue to complain about the high cost of living and hunger. The former president commended Tinubu’s administration for stabilizing the situation and showing genuine concern for Nigerians. This statement was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, quoting Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Mr Buhari in Katsina on Friday.
It is important to note that Mr Buhari’s commendation of the current administration comes at a time when protests against the high cost of living and food prices continue to mount across Nigeria. Despite the endorsement received from prominent figures such as Wasiu “KWAM1” Ayinde and Olaiya Igwe, both Fuji singers, concerns have been raised about the escalating cost of food in the nation.
The Northern Traditional Council, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has warned that a rebellion against Mr. Tinubu’s administration is imminent due to factors such as growing poverty, hunger, and instability. It is worth noting that food prices were already skyrocketing before Mr. Tinubu took office. Although experts have applauded Tinubu’s abrupt removal of fuel subsidies and floating of the naira, petrol prices have risen significantly from N145 to N630, and food costs have also increased as the naira continues to fall against the dollar, currently trading at over N1,600.
