Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche on Monday night showed why he again deserves a recall to the national team ahead of the Brazil 2014 World Cup as he netted a brace in Villarreal’s 5-1 demolition of Real Sociedad.
Uche who had scored a hat-trick in his last appearance for the Yellow submarines has now taken his tally of goals for the season to eleven.
In the Monday night clash at Camp El Madrigal , it was Uche and Mexican Giovani Dos Santos who ran the show scoring two goals each.
Dos Santos gave Villarreal the lead in the 16th minute while Uche doubled the advantage seven minutes later and just after the half hour mark Dos Santos ensured the host were way ahead scoring the night’s third goal.
Uche back fresh for the second half netted his second of the game 10 minutes into the play before Moises Gomez added more mystery on the visitors with night’s fifth goal.
Sociedad did get a consolation goal on the hour mark through Agirretxe but it was inconsequential to deny Uche and his teammates wild celebration into the night.
Villareal have now leapfrogged Real Sociedad to occupy fifth place and are closing in on one of the coveted Champions League spot in Spain.
It is yet to be seen if the sterling performances of Uche will be ignored when Coach Stephen Keshi reel out his list of invited players to fight for a place in his final World Cup squad.
