Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has berated Nigerians who are making fun of President Bola Tinubu following a viral video of him stumbling in Turkey.
The Incident
The drama ensued after the president missed his step and fell while walking alongside Turkish President Recep Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. While the footage sparked laughter and memes across social media, VDM took a different stance.
Respect for Age
The critic argued that mocking an elderly man for a physical mishap is disrespectful. He compared the incident to similar slips by US President Joe Biden, asking his followers if they would react the same way if it were their own biological fathers involved.
Fitness Concerns
However, while he refused to laugh, VDM did not hold back on his assessment of the president’s capability. He noted that such incidents are a sign of declining physical fitness, suggesting that Tinubu might no longer be fit to steer the ship of the nation.
He stated:
“A lot of you are laughing at the president. I wouldn’t because he is older than my father; he is older than a lot of your fathers on social media. So if your father falls, shey you go laugh your father? The answer is no. I believe there are a lot of things you can criticise him for, but him falling down and you are laughing makes no sense. It is not the first time he has fallen. Is he the only one that has fallen before? No. See Joe Biden.
“As he don start to dey fall, he no fit rule. I can’t laugh like others, but he is not fit to rule anymore,”
