The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally invited billionaire Aliko Dangote to appear before an investigative panel in Abuja this Monday. The invitation is in connection with a petition Dangote personally authored regarding alleged corruption within the energy sector.
The Probe
According to sources within the commission, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, has constituted a special team to investigate the claims. The oil magnate, or his legal representative, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, is expected to present concrete evidence to back up the allegations when the session commences.
The Allegations: Swiss Schools and Sabotage
Dangote’s petition targets Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The accusations are severe:
- Living Above Means: Dangote alleges that Ahmed spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in exclusive Swiss schools expenditure he claims cannot be justified by Ahmed’s lawful income as a public servant.
- Sabotage: The petition also accuses Ahmed of actively undermining domestic refining efforts by colluding with international oil traders and continuing to issue import licenses to the detriment of local industry.
Investigation Continues Despite Resignation
Although Farouk Ahmed has reportedly resigned from his position, the ICPC has clarified that the investigation will proceed regardless. The commission is treating the matter with urgency, following the formal receipt of the petition on December 16, 2025.
Official Confirmation
The Commission’s spokesperson, John Okor Odey, confirmed the development, stating that the agency received the petition from Dangote’s legal team and is moving forward with the inquiry.
