Singer Ikuforiji Olaitan, widely known as Oxlade, has shared his experience of facing racial abuse in France.
In a recent episode of ‘The Datebizz’ podcast, he revealed that this encounter inspired the title of his debut album, *Oxlade From Africa*.
“I chose the title *Oxlade From Africa* because I experienced racial abuse in France, specifically in Monaco,” he recalled.
He explained that this event made him more aware of his African identity and the stigma attached to it. “In Africa, we see ourselves as regular people, but outside Africa, they view us as monkeys or strange beings,” he added.
Oxlade, who holds a degree in History and International Relations, also expressed his belief that both the names ‘Africa’ and ‘Nigeria’ carry derogatory meanings.
