The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has refuted claims that he bragged when he was the governor of Lagos state that if given the chance, he could fix the electricity problem in Nigeria in 6 months.

Nigeria has continually failed to generate enough power to sustain the whole country since gaining independence in 1960.

Reports had emerged that Fashola had claimed that given the chance he culd rectify this problem and bring stability to the power sector in Nigeria.

However, while on Nigerian Television Authority network yesterday, the former governor outrightly denied such claims and urged the people spreading such falsehood to desist.

The Minister said he only promised a community in the Lekki area of Lagos constant power within 6 months from an Independent Power Project in the state and not Nigeria as he dared anyone with any recording of him claiming to be able to fix Nigeria’s power problems to step forward.

He said, “I have heard that I said that electricity problem will be solved in six months. I have never made the statement. Anybody who has a video of where I said this should please make it public. The point I made was when I was handing over the Lekki IPP because we had about 10 megawatts of power there.”
