Dele Momodu, described in the report as a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has officially decamped to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The announcement was made on Thursday in Benin City, Edo State, marking a significant shift in his political engagement.
Service Over Ambition
Addressing his supporters, the veteran journalist and politician clarified that his reintegration into Edo State politics is not driven by a desire for elective positions such as governor or senator. Instead, he emphasized that his primary focus is on community development and advocating for the welfare of the people. He also took the opportunity to highlight his established roots in the town of Iwe.
He stated:
“And I came home for the first time and I coordinated everything. Then it took me over 50 years, you won’t believe it, of excruciating hard work and meticulous planning to plant a home from my modest income in Iwe. So today, nobody can say Dele has no roots in Iwe. Today, I am standing before you, my friends, as I humbly reintegrate myself into the political process of my state. People have asked me, what do you want? Do you want to be a governor, a senator? No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people.”
A New Chapter
The declaration signals Momodu’s renewed commitment to the political process in his home state, positioning himself as a figure dedicated to public service rather than personal political gain.
