Iyanya, a well-known Nigerian musician and songwriter, recently made a stunning admission about the price of writing and distributing a song in that country.
He specifically revealed on Twitter that he had spent an astounding N52 million on the joint single “Like,” which he had made with Davido and Kizz Daniel.
This sum paid for the song’s recording, the creation of its music video, and all marketing efforts made prior to and following its release.
In his tweet, Iyanya expressed shock at the exorbitant cost of promoting songs in Nigeria, which has become a common trend in the music industry.
He further revealed that the least amount he has ever spent on a song was N27 million, and this occurred in January 2021.
Despite the costs he incurred, Iyanya advised upcoming artists not to be discouraged by his revelation. Instead, he encouraged them to remain focused and consistent in their musical pursuits.
Iyanya wrote;
“Promoting music has become very expensive, if you are lucky to get a song go viral make you Thank God.”
“The cheapest I have spent on a song since January 2021 is 27m.
When I dropped “LIKE” FT Davido and kizz Daniel, we spent 52 million, song, Video and promotion.
This should not discourage any up-and-coming artiste, you can do it, all you need it’s consistency.”
