Kechi Okwuchi, one of the survivors of the tragic Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash, has commemorated the 19th anniversary of the disaster, paying tribute to her 60 schoolmates and other victims who lost their lives.
The crash occurred on December 10, 2005, as the plane attempted to land at Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State, claiming 106 lives, including 60 students from Loyola Jesuit College.
In a heartfelt post on X, the America’s Got Talent star reflected on her journey and expressed gratitude for the lives and legacies of her late schoolmates.
“Today is the 19th anniversary of the Sosoliso plane crash. I hope the 60 Angels keep watch over me as I navigate life, living out God’s purpose for me,” she wrote. “I hope their loved ones who’ve rooted for me since day 1 are proud of me, and that I can keep giving them reasons to smile.”
On Facebook, Kechi reiterated her resolve to honor the memory of the 60 Angels by living a life of purpose.
“This day is always an introspective one for me,” she shared. “I hope the 60 Angels of Loyola Jesuit College are still watching over me as I navigate life, trying to find my place and fulfill the purpose God intends for me.”
She extended her thoughts to the families of the victims, thanking them for their unwavering support over the years.
“When the accident happened, they saw my survival as a beacon of light in a terribly dark time. They wrote letters to me, rooted for me, and prayed incessantly for me. This is why I chose to dedicate my life to their children – my fellow classmates, the 60 Angels.”
Kechi closed her message by pledging to continue living in a way that honors the memory of her schoolmates and brings comfort to their families.
“I chose to live on behalf of myself and everyone else that was lost in that plane crash, but most specifically, to live in a way that would make the Angels and those that they left behind proud. My hope is to continue to give you reasons to smile, knowing that this life that was saved that day was not saved in vain. Thank you.”
