Portable has issued a strong warning to his fans after discovering that a man has been impersonating him by performing his songs at shows and collecting appearance fees.
The singer reacted after several videos surfaced online showing the lookalike performing his tracks and copying his style.
In a post shared on social media, Portable urged his followers to deal with anyone pretending to be him, warning them to act directly and not involve him in any confrontation.
He said that if anyone sees his impersonator performing or dressing like him, they should “beat him up yourselves,” adding that people still complain and call for petitions even after violence occurs.
Portable stressed the worth of his brand, declaring that “I collect 10 million plus for my shows,” and warned that no one should profit from using his name.
How the controversy started
The issue began when clips of a performer resembling Portable went viral, with reports claiming the impersonator was being paid up to ₦250,000 per show. Portable dismissed the fee, saying it is far below his rate.
He clarified that he still honours genuine bookings but warned others to avoid impersonation, emphasizing the harm it can cause to his finances and reputation.
Protecting his brand, he said, “If they call me for show I go go o,” insisting that his fans should enforce his brand’s protection without tagging him.
