In a major political shake-up for Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Resignation Letter
The governor formalized his exit in a letter dated December 29, 2025, which was directed to Dasjak Sunday Longyol, the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward. In the correspondence, Mutfwang expressed his decision to leave the party immediately to pursue a different political path that aligns better with his vision for the state.
Reasons for Leaving
While he expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities and support he received during his tenure, Mutfwang cited the need for “purposeful leadership” and “clarity of direction” as the primary drivers for his departure. He emphasized that the current political realities required him to seek a new platform to better serve the people of Plateau.
The letter read:
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.
“I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.
“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.
“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
Speculation on Next Move
Although the governor’s letter remained silent on his next destination, strong indications point toward the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following months of rumors, reports suggest that the APC National Working Committee has already welcomed him into their fold, pledging their support for his transition.
