Yoruba actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has opened up about how social media fake news nearly drove her to attempt self-poisoning.
In a recent interview with *Nollywood on Radio*, Ajao shared her difficult experience dealing with false stories online, which caused her significant emotional turmoil and led her to withdraw from social activities.
“I almost poisoned myself because of news about me on social media that was far from true. It was the first time in my life to faced something so painful that I couldn’t eat for seven days. I didn’t go anywhere. People around me can testify to it.
“My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone that I was struggling with the online lies.”
It’s worth mentioning that the actress previously faced intense backlash on social media after she crowned the controversial crossdresser Bobrisky as the best-dressed female at her movie premiere. She later clarified that this was a planned move aimed at promoting the movie.
