Manchester City and Arsenal have been revealed as the teams to profit most with Howard Webb in charge over the past five Premier League seasons.

The referee, who retired today, has long been accused of bias towards Manchester United, but the Red Devils only have the fourth best points-per-game ratio under him.

United lost seven out of 20 games under his charge, which hardly indicates that he has been a key factor in their successes.

City enjoyed a whopping 2.41 points per game when Webb was the man in the middle, while Arsenal won 11 out of 15 matches with a points-per-game ratio of 2.33.

Even Norwich City have a better record than United under Webb, with 1.89 points-per-game as opposed to United’s 1.85.

It is worth noting that the authorities did seem to enjoy allocating Webb to referee United games during this period. He took charge of the Old Trafford outfit 20 times, more than any other club.

Another interesting point is that United’s biggest rivals, Liverpool, endured a terrible record under Webb. They won just five and lost 12 of the 19 matches he refereed.

Liverpool’s 0.89 points per game ratio under the Yorkshireman’s gaze is even worse than that of Blackpool, Wigan, Bolton, Fulham, Blackburn, Burnley and Cardiff.
