The sign-out ceremony is a tradition among graduating students in many Nigerian colleges and universities. It is a way of celebrating the end of their academic journey and expressing their gratitude to their lecturers and classmates. However, not everyone approves of the way some students choose to mark this occasion.
Recently, two graduating students of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, faced a disciplinary panel for their alleged “immoral” display during their sign-out ceremony. According to a reports, the students, who are from the Environmental Health Department, were accused of engaging in “indecent acts” that violated the school’s rules and regulations.
The report stated that the students were seen kissing and hugging each other in front of a banner that had their names and pictures on it. They also wrote some messages on the banner, such as “I love you my hero”, “Thanks for the sex”, and “Help me greet your wife”. The report claimed that these messages were meant to mock their lecturers, who they alleged were having affairs with some of the students.
The report further stated that the students’ actions sparked outrage among the school authorities and other students, who condemned them for tarnishing the image of the institution. The report quoted a source as saying that the students were summoned by the disciplinary committee and asked to explain their behavior. The source also said that the students could face expulsion or suspension if found guilty.
This has generated a lot of reactions from social media users, who expressed different opinions on the matter. Some people supported the students and said they were just having fun and expressing themselves. Others criticized them and said they were disrespectful and immoral.
