You don’t always have to use store bought formulas to clean up your home. Some of them contain chemicals that may cause contact dermatitis or allergic reactions. Women have always found a way to make their own cleaning products, and some families even have formulas that go back generations. Some of them might be complex, but others involve simple ingredients that can be picked up in any grocery store. Take a look.
All Purpose Cleaner and Deodorizer.
This mixture can be used to clean kitchen counters, various appliances and surfaces. Also, because it is a deodorizer it can also be used to clean up the refrigerator. Mix 4 cups of warm water with 4 tablespoons of baking powder. The baking powder absorbs any foul odors. Pour the mixture onto a sponge and clean up as you normally do.
Write Ring Remover.
Nothing can be more annoying than seeing a water mark on your newly finished reading table, or living room center-piece. No matter how many coasters and place mats you buy, there will always be that one person who won’t use them. Here is a product that will get those marks off. Mix one part of baking soda with one part of white non-gel toothpaste (Crest is a good brand). To use, apply the mixture to a damp cloth and rub over the ring. Wipe the surface with a dry cloth, then polish with a soft cloth as usual.
Ink Stain Remover
One more use for the can of hair spray sitting on your dresser is as an ink stain remover. Just spray onto the stain leave for 2 minutes, then throw in the wash. The results are amazing. You can also use hand sanitizer; we all have half-empty bottles from our “Ebola kit”. The results are just as great.
Ant Killer.
Hey mum! I hope you’re reading this. I put this up just for you. So your battle with ants is about to end forever. To make this fool-proof ant killing formula, you’ll need; 1 cup of sugar, 1 tbsp of Borax (you can find it at the cleaning section in the shops) and 1/2 a cup of water. Combine these ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Allow to boil for 3 minutes then turn off the heat and let the mixture cool and thicken. Pour the mixture into the lid of a jar (or lids, as many as you need), and place in places you know the ants will be. Make sure to clean the surface, to rid it of ant trails. Now, the mixture will attract the ants because it is sugary, but it is also poisonous. Your house will be ant-free in 2 days!
