James Earl Jones, the legendary Hollywood actor renowned for his resonant voice and commanding performances, has sadly passed away at the age of 93.
Jones died peacefully at his home on September 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, his agent Barry McPherson confirmed.
Born in Mississippi in January 1931, Jones had an impressive career in Hollywood, starring in films such as *Coming to America*, *The Greatest*, *Field of Dreams*, and *Conan the Barbarian*. He was best known for his iconic voice roles as Darth Vader in *Star Wars* and Mufasa in Disney’s *The Lion King* (1994).
Throughout his distinguished career, Jones received numerous awards, including an honorary Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, and a Tony Award. He also made a significant impact on television, winning two Emmys for his performances in *Gabriel’s Fire* and as the older Alex Haley in *Roots: The Next Generation*.
Jones appeared in early episodes of *Sesame Street* and also lent his voice to *The Simpsons*.
In recent years, he opened up for the first time in nearly two decades about his battle with type 2 diabetes. He is survived by his son, Flynn Earl Jones.
