The Federal Government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has officially celebrated Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele following the unprecedented success of her latest film, Behind the Scenes.
Shattering Records
The movie has rewritten history by becoming the first Nigerian production to cross the ₦2 billion mark, grossing over ₦2.1 billion at the local box office. Its success extended far beyond Nigerian borders, earning impressive figures internationally, including over $111,000 in Canada and $190,000 across North America.
Government Praise
The NOA described the feat as a testament to the growing global influence of Nigerian cinema. Highlighting the film’s ability to captivate audiences worldwide, the agency stated:
“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in,”
Three Years at the Top
The agency further noted that this achievement solidifies Akindele’s dominance in the industry, making her the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years. The government viewed this 2025 release not just as a personal victory for the actress, but as a significant boost for the nation’s creative economy and cultural export.
