After beating Indian Chef Lata Tondon, famed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has been formally confirmed as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon.
Guinness World Records has now acknowledged that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known by her stage name Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (person), doing it in an amazing 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Hilda intended to establish a record of 100 hours, but she was shorted by almost seven hours as a result of taking unintentionally longer than intended during one of her rest periods.
As per the rules for all “longest marathon” records, Hilda was allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks could be accumulated if not taken, and they provided her with the opportunity to use the bathroom or rest during the attempt.
The previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes was set by Lata Tondon from India in 2019. Hilda embarked on this record-breaking journey to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and “inspire young African women to pursue their dreams.”
