The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is accusing suspended deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Abba Kyari and two of his siblings of failing to register assets. On Thursday, July 6, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Abba Kyari at the amount of N50 million.
Kyari and his two siblings, Mohammed Baba Kyari and Ali Kyari, were charged with the 24-count offense, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/408/2022 by the NDLEA. They were arraigned in June 2023.
Abba Kyari was given conditional release by Justice James Omotosho in the amount of N50 million with two sureties in the same amount, according to The Nation.
Vanguard further stated that Justice Omotosho said that among other requirements, the sureties must own property worth N250 million inside the jurisdiction.
One of the police officer’s attorneys, Hamza Dantani, confirmed the development in a Facebook post.
He wrote:
“Alhamudullhi! Abba Kyari’s Bail Granted by Federal High Court Abuja today.”
Justice Omotosho of the court ruled that even if Abba Kyari complies with the bail requirements, the approval of his release order is contingent on what happens in a related case in which he is being prosecuted alongside four other people for his participation in drug trafficking.
In the other case, which is being heard by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, he has already been denied bail twice.
Justice Omotosho previously granted bail to his two siblings.
